It’s added and hidden everywhere. Most package foods have added sugar. The aaverage person should have about 25-40 grams of sugar in one day. One medium apple has about 19 grams. One can of coke 39 grams. The coke is higher in sugar and also absorbs faster because there is no fiber. The caffeine dehydrates the body and the insulin spike leaves you crashing fast.
This leads us to the the next awesome trend of juicing ! Now everyone wants to get healthy after the Coca-cola era and get their veggies and fruits in one packed drink. The problem with that is most juices have 3-4 apples in them. The fiber is extracted and you are left with about 57 grams of pure sugar in your delicious juice. Go back to the coke people !
Juicing is a great concept but you have to be extremely careful with how they are created. At Nirvana Wellness Cafe our juices are mindfully created to have MAX 1 apple. We also add minerals and herbs to our drinks depending on what you are looking to achieve. They may not be super sweet but we think your sweet enough.
Now you have a few grams left in the day for one of our super food baked treats that will hold you over with coconut oils, hemp seeds, chia, flax, and other amazing ingredients.
Namaste sugar monsters
Nirvana Cafe is very excited to bring amazing organic, gluten free, dairy free, and vegan creations to heal the body to New Jersey! Many are asking how it all started so we decided to create a blog for education and healing.
I am the founder or Nirvana and I suffered for years with thyroid and many other health issues (I will be blogging on many) I was a vegetarian at a young age and started studying ayurveda and yoga at 18 years of age. I was also an athlete and fitness advocated from and early age. Being an italian girl who loved her food, I of course struggled with weight issues at a young age. I was raised to love my bagels, pasta, and of course pizza! I played collegiate soccer and came home from college at 18 broken, heavy, and anxiety ridden. I was solid muscle but I couldn't touch my toes and I had no idea who I was. Then...and I thank god every day... I found yoga.
The practice started to heal me and over time I started actually tuning in to how my body felt with everything I was doing. The daily practice of mindfulness started to trickle in to my life. At 24 my hair was falling out and my weight was still fluctuating. I was burning over 1500 calories a day in yoga practice, but my weight was not showing that. Yeah 1500 calories, who says yoga is not a workout?! I was just about to enter medical school and my inner gut said to make a right turn. I was still not able to handle stress and I was not healthy. I felt this strong gut feeling that if I went to medical school I would wind up unhappy and not actually helping people because our society needs education about the medicine of food, not more pills. I dove in to study ayurveda and I have been studying ever since.
Ayurveda is beautiful and amazing science and just some simple ayurvedic methods can change a persons life. I went to an Osteopath and she told me that I needed to take synthroid to fix my thyroid. I refused. I committed to eating the way ayurvedic medicine suggests for my dosha and within a few months my levels were regular. My hair also grew back in and my weight dropped drastically. I got curious as to why this may have happened and did some more research on what it was I wasn't eating that could possibly have been the cause of my sudden thyroid issue. I can not tell you how many women now come to my yoga class that tell me they are on synthroid for life.
Check this article out below about the potassium bromide additive that is banned in other countries. It is used to process most wheat products and that was exactly what I had removed from my diet. It is not a coincidence. I remind you though, I am a girl who loves her pasta and pizza. So my goal with Nirvana cafe is to educate and satisfy the public with gluten free, vegan, and organic ayurvedic creations that keep you happy and healthy. Namaste!
